This trip to Greece is 20 years in the making. It was in 1994 that we made our only visit to Greece and it happened to be on our honeymoon. For two decades we’ve talked about returning to Greece and decided a few years ago that it would be fun to do it this year for our 20th anniversary.<\/p>\n
When I look back to that first trip to Greece, it was significant as it was really the start of almost 20 years of travel for us. Of course, there were a few gaps here and there but I never would have guessed back in 1994 that travel was going to end up being such a big part of our lives.<\/p>\n
There are only a very few things that I remember from that first trip to Greece, how hot it was really sticks out in my memory. That original trip was done in August and that aspect that we have never repeated it as it was the last time that we ever traveled during August. Over the years we have chosen to do the bulk of our travel before mid-June and after mid-September. Not only is the weather generally more temperate but there are a ton fewer<\/span> people traveling as during the summer months.<\/p>\n It’s Tuesday today and I’m writing this first section of my blog at the boarding gate at the Vancouver airport. We will be arriving in Athens on Wednesday evening and I expect that we’re going to be pretty tired when we finally check into our hotel. I’ll check back in from Athens.<\/p>\n Athens<\/b><\/p>\n It\u2019s about 6:30 AM in Athens and we arrived last night. It was a long day of travel flying here through Frankfurt and it\u2019s 10 hours<\/span> time zone difference from Vancouver. The good news is that Barb and I got a decent night\u2019s sleep last night and hope to have enough energy to explore the city after breakfast. We have two full days in Athens before we head onto the next stage of our trip.<\/p>\n I\u2019ll have some photos to post by the time Part 2 goes online.<\/p>\n Baden<\/p>\n PS: You may have noticed that I’m using new software for my blog updates.
