The Making of an Excellent Adventure 2005 – Part 11

This post by Liz will be the last of the “Making of an Excellent Adventure 2005” series. Part 1 of Our Excellent Italian Adventure begins tomorrow. …Baden

It’s the day before departure as I reflect on the last couple of weeks. The panic didn’t set in until last week – not about the trip but whether I would be able to clear my desk at the office by Friday. Of course along with the panic, I was always thinking about what I was going to bring on the trip (clothes that is). It seems I go through this sense of panic before I go on any vacation – whether it’s a short one or long one. The panic has subsided as I left work on Friday with a clear desk. The next step was to answer the question “what do we take with us”? All the clothes were laid out and we did a “dry run” to see if it would all fit in the allotted suitcases. I think Peter and I were both surprised that everything fit. Of course, the task now is to see if we can do it again for real as some of the items had to come out to be washed.

Today’s agenda is mostly just running around – getting haircuts, picking up last minute items for the trip, paying bills, some last minute ironing and then re-packing the suitcases. It’s nice having a few days before we depart so we’re not in another panic trying to get everything done the day before we leave.

Hopefully we’ll have a good sleep tonight – but I can just see myself thinking all night long; did I forget anything, did I pack enough clothes, will we make our connection in London, will I be able to sleep on the plane?

Of course, now it’s too late for some things that seemed like a good idea six months ago – reading-up on those places we’ll be visiting, learning some basic Italian language skills, etc.

We’ll just have to wing it as we go along….
