The Pin Ceremony

The Pin Ceremony has officially taken place.

Just a few steps from my computer in the den are two maps on the walls. On the one closest to me is a large map of Europe which now has 26 yellow pins on it. The yellow pins mark the major locations in Europe that we have visited since our first trip there in 1994. It all started about 11 years ago after we came back from our first big adventure and we got a wall map of the world to start putting coloured pins on it to mark locations to where we had travelled. This worked well enough until we had travelled to Europe for the 2nd or 3rd time. After that, we decided to get a dedicated map of Europe as the pins in the Europe section of the world map were getting too close together. Since then, we have added 3-4 yellow pins a year to the Europe map alone.

Every year now when we come back from an Excellent Adventure, we get the new pins out and put them on the wall on the cities to where we have travelled – officially known as the Pin Ceremony.
