Barb and Baden’s Excellent Christmas Adventure – Part 2
Jet Lag
We arrived safely in Frankfurt on Friday morning and after picking up our rental car, met our friends and drove to our first stay in the small town of Bad Kreuznach which was about an hour drive from the airport. It’s a small town with nice views of vineyards and our hotel is just on the outskirts of town but the town is just a short walk away down the hill.
It took us about 2 days to fully recover from the jet lag and by today (Sunday) we both feel in full vigour.
Late Nights
We’ve been having lots of fun with our friends, some late nights and spent much of our time so far walking around the town of Bad Kreuznach which is a short walk down the hill from our hotel. The weather has been fairly good so far just around 0-1 degrees and with appropriate clothing is nice for walking around. We had a bit of rain yesterday morning but we later when we went to our first weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas market) in the city of Mainz the wether changed for the better.
The Christmas market in Mainz was really busy with lots of people enjoying the food and atmosphere of the market. We have normally attended the Christmas maker in Vancouver and, while it is quite nice, the size and scope of “real” Christmas markets here in Germany are dramatically larger. There’s also so much more history and richness that one feels here in Germany that makes the whole experience that much better.
I’ll check in again in a few days.

The pictures are great, and it all sounds so exciting. Cally did a student exchange in Mainz and studied there when she wa 15. I guess your pictures will take her back to the time she spent in Mainz. Enjoy your holiday. Lots of love.

Yes,the grass is always greener on the other side – we have as much beauty in this country as in Europe. However, it is not the same as we are culturally dfferent. Enjoy your travels. Merry Christmas to you and Barb.
Love always, Dad
