Our Excellent Return to the Sea – Part 1

Barb and I were reminiscing how it’s been 30 years since we first visited Santorini. It was in 1994 when we traveled to the Greek Islands and the Mediterranean on our honeymoon, seeing the world for the first time with fresh eyes and jumpstarting our 30-year love of travel. Who knew back then that we would get to see so many other destinations around the world over the years?

For almost a year, Barb and I have been planning this return trip to Santorini and a Mediterranean cruise, generally mirroring what we did on our honeymoon.  Many more details about the cruise part of our Adventure a bit later.

But today is travel day and we had a relatively leisurely morning as we have a late afternoon departure to the airport. For several weeks now, Barb has been asking “Am I excited about the trip yet”? The answer is always the same: I’m usually not, until I finish my last day of work before traveling, which was yesterday, that my mind shifts to travel. So as of yesterday after work, yes it’s now exciting. Doing our flight check-in last night has made it all real and we’re looking forward to getting to the airport.

Sidebar: this will be the last trip we're taking while I'm still working. The big trip we have planned in March next year will be after I've retired so the whole "being at work until we travel" thing will cease to exist. Big changes ahead.

As is often the case, I’m posting this first installment at the Vancouver airport waiting for our flight, and after a long day of travel we have ahead of us with a connection in Frankfurt, Barb and I will arrive tomorrow morning in Santorini, a return to Greece and a return to the Sea.
