Barb and Baden’s Excellent Mountain Adventure – Part 1

Barb and I have been told before that we don’t often follow the crowd. It’s almost February now and pretty much all of our friends who are traveling anywhere are going somewhere hot which, to be honest, is pretty typical this time of the year – Hawaii and Mexico being the most popular destinations. So, you might ask, where are we going? Well all I can say is that we’ve packed our snowshoes and most of our luggage is filled with sweaters and warm clothes.

This morning we flew from Vancouver to Calgary and about an hour ago we arrived at the historic Chateau Lake Louise hotel at Lake Louise Alberta. Admittedly, the Chateau is a bit higher scale than Barb and I normally travel but we happened to get a fairly good deal on the whole package so we decided to book it.

We drove from Calgary and by the time we got to the Lake Louise area it had dropped to about -7 degrees and was snowing pretty hard. Barb and I did a walkaround the hotel grounds and within 45 minutes we were covered in snow. As I said we had brought our snowshoes with us and our plan is to spend quite a bit of time outside while we’re here. We’ve got all of the right gear to spend the day outside and we hope to start our first outing tomorrow morning. No doubt that by late tomorrow afternoon we’re going to be enjoying some hot chocolate or something similar warming up in one of the many hotel restaurants.

Really nice photo. I’d be interested to some photos of the interior of Chatueau lake Louise as well. Looks like you are going to have a great trip!

Hi B & B, is that a skating rink in the background? Right in the hotel’s front yard! Only in Canada…

Thinking of you as we sit in a downpour here in Vancouver…5 deg today!

    Stay warm!

Yes it’s a skating rink. It’s a section of the ice that covered the entire lake – technically the ‘back’ of the Chateau. We were upgraded to a lake-side room and we saw workers clearing the snow from the rink around 6AM.
